Profile Eval. Science and Business Combo

by Rits » Mon Jan 14, 2013 10:25 am
Hi All,

I have recently completed the GMAT and am hoping to attend a BSchool within the next 2 years.

My profile is below and I was hoping if anyone could shed some insight into the likelihood of a successful acceptance into a Canadian Bschool and/or any suggestions.

I am currently a PhD candidate in Pharmacology and Health Sciences and have always been drawn towards "Business".
I am hoping to mesh together my two fields of passion: Pharmacology and Business Management/Investment Strategies. I have a minor in business and 3.9 GPA in Hon.Bachelor Sci. I am currently on my way to completing my PhD degree, and as such I am a "fresh" student in that regard. My business experience comes from my PhD work. Thus my "work experience" has been centered around academia. I decided a month ago to write the GMAT and after 2 weeks of studying I scored a 640(I understand it requires more time but finding focused time is easier said than done) .
I live in Canada and would like to attend a Bschool here: Schulich, Rotman, Ivy.

Do I have enough to get in? Do I need to rewrite the GMAT?

Do I need more traditional business experience and/or more diverse experience?

Are Schulich, Rotman, and Ivy realistic or are there other Bschools that would better fit my bill?

Thank you! Any advice/insight is greatly appreciated.

Hi Rits,

Well the schools you have shortlisted looks fine. You can also write to b-school adcoms and share your profile/requirements regarding full-time MBA. The weightage given to GMAT in any b-school is not more than 15% to 20% of the entire application process. There is always time to improve your scores. Hence I would suggest you to focus and write strong application essays and position well in your final interviews.

An interview equally plays important role in b-school admission, so you can speak about the value you will create in their society, why they should admit you and other aptitudes. To know more about interview tips and preparation, click https://bit.ly/XQVp4s
