Equation Problem ...

by camitava » Thu Sep 13, 2007 4:29 am
Guys I have faced the following problem but according to me, the answer should be 1.62. But no such option is here.

Code: Select all

5. At a certain diner, a hamburger and coleslaw cost $3.59, and a hamburger and french fries cost $4.40. If french fries cost twice as much as coleslaw, how much do french fries cost?
(A) $0.30
(B) $0.45
(C) $0.60
(D) $0.75
(E) $0.90
Refer my approach -
H + C = 3.59
H + F = 4.40
and F = 2C
So C = .81
and F = 1.62

Guys pls tell me where I am wrong? Pls help me out ...
Correct me If I am wrong

Amitava

Let me know if the correct answer is E.

Your answer is correct, however there seems to be a type in the question; Hamburger + coleslaw cost should be $3.95 which will solve the value of french fries to be $0.90.

FYI, the same questions was discussed in either this or some other similar forum before the typo was figured out : )
