Hi everyone,

When I took the exam in November 2008, I scored a 440. I felt horrible after the exam. I felt like all the extreme hard work, dedication, and time put into preparing for two months had gone to WASTE and I really didn't know what to do. I took 7 practice exams prior to taking the actual exam, studied for two weeks or so before starting my course with the Princeton Review. I started the course with a 360 and ended with a 510 on the last/5th practice test. Then, I took another practice exam with the free GMAT Prep Software and scored 510 again.

I am afraid that if I take the test more than 3 times, it will be looked at negatively to the schools I am interested in applying to. However, If I improve even more with each re-take, i don't see what could disqualify me? i am not the best test-taker, but my goal is to get at least a 600, and I am not never going to give up until I succeed. I am motivated to retake it again, but I just need some comforting advice/encouragement. I also have some mild learning deficiencies that impact my ability to understand certain types of questions and answer them. So, I have to put in extra effort than the average person for some concepts/topics. Hopefully, the admissions committee of schools I am interested in will see other aspects of application other than the GMAT - i have a 3.71 undergraduate cumulative GPA with a double major, had 15-20 hour workweeks during my senior year, played full-time varsity tennis all 4 yeas in college, and right now, good stable work experience and doing public speaking (Toastmasters Club) at work. In sum, I am a very hardworking person and feel I have a lot to offer from the different kinds of skills: communication, analytical, etc.

Since, I work full-time and work life schedule is not always predictable, I have decided I will enroll in a Kaplan course starting on March 7. I plan on taking the exam around mid-may. Any suggestions for studying before the start of my upcoming course? I feel that to achieve a score of at least at 640, it will really be best to take an intensive, classroom course. I have GMAT study cards that I bought from borders and some online notes.

Thank you!

When you take these tests you must be confident in your abilities. You may or may not be ability to grasp GMAT concepts more quickly than others, but you cant have that on your mind when taking these tests. That will only eat at you and will make you think you cant solve a problem right off the bat... Stay positive and confident, review GMAT concepts religiously, and practice the problems over and over. 1st know each concept and then apply the concept.

You might think I am kidding when I suggest this but look into the mirror everyday and say "I will beatthegmat; I will score over 650" about 20x. You will eventually start to believe.

You must believe before you can achieve

Does anyone out there have any advice? I think it really helps to hear from others for suggestions on how to do well on the next re-take. I really wanna do well and achieve my target score. This week, I started studying little by little with sentence correction examples and exercises. On Saturday, I am attending a free GMAT practice test event with Kaplan and I plan on speaking one-on-one with someone during the event about my learning needs and my greatest weaknesses.

I just need some comforting advice. I have taken this exam twice before, once in May 2005 (where I scored a 410) and the last time in November 2008 (440). I really hope this is not the end.

Thanks!
