Less than expected verbal score on GMAT

by DiegoG » Fri Oct 09, 2009 10:41 pm
Hi guys,

I took the GMAT exam this week and got a less than expected GMAT score. I was practicing with Manhattan GMAT and 800Score practice tests and was consistently getting a verbal score between 35 and 40. I have scored as low as 32 and as high as 43 in these practice tests. I used to time my tests and almost always completed the verbal section with 1-2 minutes to spare.

On the GMAT, however, I scored 24 on the verbal section. I do not know what caused me to under perform on the exam. Is there anybody who has been through a similar experience? What did you do to improve the verbal score? What other practice tests you took? Do you know which test scores are more indicative of the actual GMAT verbal score?

Thanks!

Welcome to the community, and sorry to hear that your last GMAT didn't meet your expectations.

A 24 is a big drop in your verbal score, based on what you were performing in your practice. Were you especially stressed, or did you lose your pacing during the real exam?

To answer your last questions, the best practice test that measures your GMAT performance is GMATPrep, available for free at MBA.com.

i went through a similar exp........

I gave my gmat on 16th.... i got 23 in my verbal..in practice exams i was getting 35.... i got big SC.. big i mean all were atleast 2 complete lines on a wide screen monitor....comprehending the SCs was as tough as comprehending CRs..... I was surprised to see my score...

sometimes i believe GMAC might be having a pool of tough softwares just in order to correct percentile.
