Hi experts,
Now that I've gotten the test out of the way, it's time to begin phase 2. I would love your insight on my chances for a successful admission, and thanks for your help (it is kind of long).
Bio
- Age 29, male - Canadian of Korean heritage based in Toronto
Experience
- 3.5 years; in marketing, with specialization in advertising, digital marketing, and public relations.
- 3 jobs; first at a well-known ad agency working on a large Canadian bank account, and then each successive position client-side. Currently working for a B2B financial services firm started by 2 of Canada's largest banks. The company is the market leader in Canada, and 5th largest in the world.
- Though being labeled a job hopper is a concern, I can explain with confidence that with each position I've gained skills in different areas that someone looking to be a manager in this field should have. Plus, I was at each position for at least a year, and one of the position was a 12-month fixed term contract.
GMAT
720 (48/41) Nov '11 - previous attempt in Mar '10 was 610
Education
- B. Comm - Marketing major / MIS minor - Concordia University in Montreal
- GPA 3.41 - graduated "with Distinction" (similar to "cum laude" in US)
- Post-grad diploma in advertising from a school probably unknown to those outside Canada
- Certificate in Public Relations from University of Toronto
Extra-curricular
- Undergrad: VP marketing for marketing student association, VP communications for a conference on sustainable business practices, and Team manager for Entrepreneurship student organization.
- Have placed several 1st places in academic business case competitions - in both marketing and MIS.
- For last 3 years, co-chair for Relay For Life planning committee for Canadian Cancer Society.
- Community support committee at current job
Misc.
- Fluent in Korean; grew up in Korea until 12 -Â being 'international' is a part of my identity.
As for my shortlist, I'm looking strictly at UK-based programs. Since my gmat turned out better than expected, I'm including LBS (which I'm beginning to secretly obsess about!)
- LBS
- Cass
- Imperial
- Said or Judge (I would prefer a London-based program)
Career goals post MBA
- Continue career in financial services marketing (retail banking). My goal is to work for one of the big four banks in the UK.
Merci!
