700 (Q44 V42): At'll Do, Pig. At'll Do.

I took the GMAT for the first time yesterday and scored a respectful 700. This is a bit lower than I expected based on my recent GMAT Prep Practice tests, which placed me in the 750-760 range, but I'm satisfied with the score and will not retake because I am only targeting part-time programs in the Atlanta area. The top part-time program's (Emory) 80th percentile GMAT score is 700. However, I'm more interested in Georgia Tech/Georgia State (because of cost) and my score is right at their 80th and 90th percentiles respectfully.

I won't give a detailed debrief because there are so many great ones here and because most on this forum are targeting higher than 700, anyway. But it followed the pretty standard path of OG 12 and Manhattan GMAT books.

Oddly, it turned out that my MGMAT test scores were the most accurate, despite the assurances that GMAT Prep was the most accurate test. I found the quant section on the real thing to be quite a bit more difficult than GMAT Prep and actually more along the lines of MGMAT. My quant score mirrored MGMAT, too. I averaged right around 44. On GMAT Prep, my quant side on Prep 2 was 49 and 50 on my two attempts, so I obviously fell quite a bit. My average on MGMAT was also 700, which matched my real score.

I want to say thanks to Eric (the founder) and everyone who contributes to these forums. They were truly a valuable resource and helped guide me in my preparation. Best of luck to everyone on their 750+ quests!

Nice score! I am sure you are glad to be done! Good Luck with the applications!

Thanks. I would characterize my score as satisfactory because, from a pragmatic perspective, it should serve my purposes well, but it ultimately fell a bit short of my realistic expectations. I would be more satisfied had my last GMAT Prep scores not been 750 and 760 because I went in with an expectation of a 730+ score. And I would be disappointed if my MBA choices weren't limited to programs that averaged in the low-600's. But all things considered, I am happy enough that I'm happy it's over with, that I now have more free time, and that I'm a member of the 700 Club.

Congrats. I share your feeling that the GMATPrep's Quant felt easier than the real one. It does feel like it depends on some luck - such as whether you got questions on topics you felt most comfortable with.

If anybody is curious, here are my practice test scores, in order. I took one every few days.

GMAT Prep 1 Attempt 1: 650
MGMAT Test 1: 710 (Q46, V41)
Princeton Free Test: 640
GMAT Prep 1 Attempt 2: 720 (Q44, V44)
MGMAT Test 2: 690 (44Q, 39V)
PowerPrep Test 1: 720 (49Q, 39V)
Kaplan Free: 670 (42Q, 44V)
GMAT Prep 1 Attempt 3: 720 (44Q, 44V) - repeats noticed this time.
GMAT Prep 1 Attempt 4: 720 (48Q, 41V) - Lots of repeats. Basically pacing practice.
GMTA Prep 1 Attempt 5: 750 (49Q, 44V) - Basically useless result. More pacing practice.
MGMAT Test 3: 690 (39Q, 44V)
GMAT Prep 1 Attempt 6: 760 (49Q, 47V) - Can you tell I didn't want to waste the second test?
PowerPrep Test 2: 750 (49Q, 44V)
MGMAT Test 4: 700 (43Q, 41V)
GMAT Prep 2 Attempt 1: 750 (49Q, 44V)
GMAT Prep 2 Attempt 1: 760 (50Q, 42V)
MGMAT Test 6: 710 (47Q, 40V)

Based on my most recent GMAT Prep and MGMAT scores, I expected a quant score in the high 40's or maybe even 50. That would have put me in the 750+ crowd, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh well!
