Hi,

It would be of much help if you could kindly review my profile, and evaluate my chances of getting admitted to one of the top b-schools.

I plan to start my application process for the session of 2010, and intend to go ahead with the first round of applications at some of the top b-schools.

My profile:

B-Tech, Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur(2007 passout)
CGPA : 6.91/10.00
Extra-curriculars:
1. Have been the General Secretary and later the Student Advisor of the Student Council.
2. Have been actively involved as a part of the organizing team our technology and social & cultural fest.
3. Have been an active member of the dramatics and debating society.
4. Have won awards at various intra college and inter-college bplan competitions.

Work Experience:

I have had the experience of working for 18 months with a Technology & Management Consulting major, as an SAP consultant.

Entrepreneurial Experience
Post that, I have founded an analytics based startup with some of my friends, and we are trying to work things around for me. I have been involved with this startup for the past 8 months, and we are gradually in the process of earning small amounts of profit for the organization.

I wish to join a top b-school with a cumulative working experience of around 38 months.

MY GMAT Score:

740

TOEFFL:
Not taken as yet

Would be eagerly waiting for your comments on my profile and my chances of landing up with an offer from a good b-school.

Regards

Hello,

While you appear to be basically qualified for top b-schools, I think you’ll have the challenge of standing out in a group (Indian and IT) that is over-represented and that has very high numbers generally, high professional accomplishment, and often strong extracurricular activity. Therefore, I suggest you consider some top-20 to top-25 level schools, with some applications to top-10 level also as reaches. The entrepreneurship experience itself won’t necessarily stand out – it has to have thematic consistency with your application overall, and/or some interesting angle. In your applications, develop and execute a strategy to differentiate yourself among your industry and demographic group. Also, I didn’t see mention of post-college extracurricular activities, which would be important for top-level b-schools.

I hope this input will help you to make good use of the time now to prepare --

Best regards,
