How should i analyse my free diagnostic GMAT from Knewton.

Hi,

I just took a free diagnostic GMAT from Knewton.

The test result is as below.

Test Information (Score / Percentile Rank)
Verbal 23 / 31%
Quantitative 38 / 55%
Total 500 / 38%

My previous gmat score is 580(Verbal - 18 and Quant -50) five months back.
I did not touch quant from last 5 months, did not even solve a single problem, Started preparing with verbal section from last 3 weeks.
Given this back ground how should i analyse my diagnostic test score.

Hi,

Knewton's GMAT is fairly representative of the actual GMAT. I agree its analysis of the GMAT score is not very good, but you can do a little bit of hardwork to figure it out.

I see that your target score is 680 and you have lot of scope for improvement, so I guess you start with basics and figure out the weakest sections in both Quant and Verbal. Try to create an excel sheet with all the question types and mark them right or wrong. Then filter it or create a pivot table to figure out the strongest and the weakest links in quant and verbal, and also strongest and weakest in each sections. For instance, if you are poor in SC try to figure out what type of questions, is it Parallelism, SVA etc, similarly in quant if you are weak in DS then figure out which section such as Number Properties, Geometry.

Also, try to use the data on number of minutes taken for each question, that will really help to focus your weakest areas. Put all this information in excel and play with it. Once you have taken 2-3 tests you will have a lot more data and will start seeing patterns. One test may not be that representative of your skills. Also

Start from the weakest and move towards the strongest. If you can spare sometime then try Knewton's classes, I think you will find them helpful. Also try MGMAT's tests, they have great analysis reports much more helpful

It seems that you have to work on your verbal a bit.
Even though you have prepared for 3 weeks,but still you have got about half the % as in math.
I wanted to ask:-What was your section break-up in verbal???
SC/CR/RC??
I have found that most efficient way to increase the score in verbal is through SC.
Once,you get your concepts straight,it is very easy to score in this section + it takes less time to attempt same no. of questions than in RC.
Have you practised Manhattan SC guide.
For SC ,I have found it to be the most optimum guide.

Also,in quant I would like to ask:-
What was your reason for score of 38??
Did you leave some ques. at the end or did you get some of them wrong(attempted all) ??

Better analysis can be done if you can state ur break up in sections.
