Should i retake the GMAT again

by aquabu » Mon Feb 20, 2012 7:23 am
I would appreciate if someone could help me out with my dilemma as to whether i should retake my GMAT again. I have taken my GMAT twice already. 1st attempt 620. I knew i was much better than that. so took it again in Jan'2009 and got 700. Decent score. I also got admits based on the score but due to personal reasons could not pursue my MBA at that point of time.
Given that my score is 3 years old as of today. Does it make sense to retake the GMAT. I primarily plan to apply to US B-schools (2 year full time MBA) and I am from India. Two questions on my mind currently
1)Would schools see my score as being too old and consider it as less reflective of my current aptitude?
2)If i retake and fare well (720+) well and good. But if i score less than 700 how would schools perceive my GMAT. Would they still go for the highest and consider 700 or go for the most recent ones.

Appreciate inputs folks may have here to help me get over my dilemma!
Thanks
AK.

700 is a great score.

* The scores are valid for 5 years from the date you took the exam.
* Only your highest score is considered when you apply for a bschool even though all your scores in the last 5 years will be available in your score report.
*BSchools really don't consider whether it was taken now or earlier until it is within the 5 years time span.

You can retake the exam if you are really interested and you are sure that you can put in considerable effort to reach beyond 750 or else its of no use. Anything less than 750 doesn't make much of a difference. Instead of preparing to score a 720, you can concentrate on your essays well to highlight your achievements etc. That would be a better option instead of a retake.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
