Made a 270

by fo0lzo » Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:27 pm
Okay i'm depressed now......i was studying on and off for about 5 months because of college. I never took the practice test( gmat prep) until today and scored a 270.......so all the studying for the past 5 months didn't pay off.

Q-9
V-16
total 270

Man.....i'm so embarrassed............please help me anyone?

i have been using the OG 11 book and thats it with some other resources.
When i took the practice test the Q section seen alot harder than the OG 11 book......i had plenty of time left over

Sorry to hear about your score. Don't worry about it though. Since you've been studying on-off it surely contributed to your scoring lower on the practice test.

You should try and set a schedule so you practice regularly and not lose touch with the test. If your school schedule cannot permit about 10 hours of study per week then I'd suggest that you browse this forum once every day for 30-45 minutes look at questions discussed. You will need to prepare and be confident before you take it.

Parore has the right idea. You need to set up a consistent study schedule. Studying on and off, while a good introduction to the GMAT, is not sufficient for a good score. Ideas are forgotten, strategies become vague, lessons become unlearned.

Have you gone over the introductory materials for the GMAT or only the OG11 book alone?

Hey Foolzo,

This is a good place to start:

https://beatthegmat.blocked/2005/08 ... ience.html

It sounds like you are missing the points that are being tested on the questions. Are you checking your answers? You mentioned that you have time left over, which is something that RARELY occurs.

Read through the post in the above link and the subsequent links and posts noted in it. If you are still having issues then I will be willing to provide more guidance.[/url]

When are you planning to take the test?

If you have sufficient time, surely you should check green and purple books

Personally, I would redo OG11. I say this because your recent cat score is rather low. This indicates that there are some areas that you need to work on, and I think you should try to tackle those general problems first before moving into the supplement books. You may also want to consider going back through the Cracking the GMAT book and the Kaplan 2007 book to relearn the strategies for each type of question.

okay i'm redoing the OG 11 ( main book)......and the PS problems seem so much easier than the Gmat Prep. When i did the Gmat Prep hardly any of the question from the MAIN BOOK even showed up for the PS problems. But i'm redoing it and timing myself for each problem and putting my mistakes into an excel file

I would study suppliment books as I feel they're bit easier than OG11.

It'll also help me build some confidence & pace :)

Careless mistakes are usually due to pacing yourself too fast. Try slowing down, and see whether your performance improves.
