"The claims of some politicians that we are on the brink of an energy crisis are misguided. We have enough oil in reserve to see us through any production shortage and the supply of in-ground oil is in no danger of running out any time soon. There is thus no need to set aside the technology and infrastructure of a century of oil-based energy."

Oil crisis is one of the major issues of concern in recent days.Several attempts are being made in order to reduce the dependency on oil so that there is something left for our future generations to survive on.
In the above paragraph, the author points out that the claims of the politicians that we are on the brink of energy crisis are misguided. The author reaches this conclusion on the basis of the fact that there is enough oil in reserve to provide for any production shortage and that supply of in-ground oil would not run out soon. However, these facts are not enough to conclude that we are not on the brink of an energy crisis. The author should take into consideration the situation some 70-100 years down the line.It is not clear what he means by the word 'soon'. Further, there is no data provided in order to support the argument.
The above argument would have been strengthened if the author would have provided exact data regarding how much reserve of oil is available, the consumption rate and then conclude how many years can human beings survive with the oil reserve available currently.
Hence,it can be concluded that the argument is very weak and it needs to be supported with proper data in order reac a strong conclusion
