Profile Evaluation request

by mafia_big » Sat Dec 04, 2010 4:58 pm
Hi,

Would be glad to here your opinions, suggestions, comments... on my profile! Thank you in advance :)

Here we go:

I'm 29 y.o., from Russia, but have lived almost 20 years in Bulgaria

I want to study MSc in Finance (with the idea of getting a job in London). My top-choice program is Instituto de Empresa - Master in Advanced Finance; second choice - Erasmus University of Rotterdam - Master in Finance and Inverstments.

I have both Bachelor's and Master's degree in International Economic Relations from a bulgarian university with an average GPA (around 4,8 out of 6,0 - Bachelor's and 4,6 / 6,0 - Master's). While my GPA form school is perfect - 5,0 out of 5,0
IELTS score - 8.0
GMAT - 700 (Q49, V35, AWA4.0) (most probably will retake in January)

I have 4 year experience, but not related to finance. I was hired by a small manufacturing company as a Financial controller, but was promoted to a Supplies manager, as the crisis hit the company and the previous Supplies manager was fired and the management was happy with my work. So I was running a 5 people department (which was reduced to 3, as I had to choose whom to make redundant as a result of the crisis). At the beginning of the year I had to quit job, as a member of family got seriously ill and needed constant care. Couple of month ago I started a new job as accountant (I chose this job as it's not very demanding and I had time to prepare for GMAT and now to prepare my application, plus I needed some rest)

Additionally, if anyone has applied to IE, I'll be really happy to know what they expect from the requested 3 essays, as there are quite specific.
Plus, what do you think - should I include in the essay (especially to University of Rotterdam as there is no specific topic), the fact that a family member has been ill for 2 years and I had even to quit job for almost a year because of that, and that is the reason, why I'm applying now when I'm 29 and not earlier?

Thanks!

I wish I were as optimistic as you are. At the moment I'm not sure if I'll be able to write good enough essays to get in.
About the GMAT, during my preparation I got scores in the range 720-760, so I think I can get higher score; somewhere near 730 is realistic, plus my score is not very balanced - Q49 and V35. And I think higher score will boost my chances to get in.

Since, obviously, my request is too specific, I'd like at least to know if anyone has some experience with European non-UK finance programs. Do you think in general about my profile in regard to such finance programs?

Thanks!
