The Clean-Tech industry, concerned with renewable resources and related technologies such as solar and wind-powered electricity generation and sea-water desalination, is a rapidly growing industry as currently the world's interest in environmental protection rises.

A) is a rapidly growing industry as currently the world's interest in environmental protection rises
B) is rapidly growing as currently the world's interest in environmental protection increases
C) is rapidly growing due to the world's currently rising interest in environmental protection
D) grows rapidly as the world's current interest in environmental protection is rising
E) grows rapidly as currently the world's interest in environmental protection is on the increase

my doubt : how "due to" is oki in option C and also why option B wrong ?

Hi aditya8062,

One of the grammar rules that this SC is based on is called Modification. Modifiers can either be individual words (that end in "LY") or phrases. In either situation, the modifying word/phrase needs to be right next to what it's SUPPOSED to be modifying.

This sentence has 2 "LY" words: "rapidly" (which modifies "growing") and "currently" (which modifies "rising").

The only answer that puts these modifiers in the correct positions is C

The phrase "due to" is fine; it defines a cause-and-effect relationship between the nouns.

Due to cannot serve as an adverb; it can serve only as an ADJECTIVE.
An adjective must modify a NOUN.

When due to is used correctly, it can be replaced by caused by.
Correct: The cancellation was DUE TO rain.
Here, due to serves as an adjective modifying the cancellation.
What KIND of cancellation?
A cancellation DUE TO RAIN.
If we replace due to with caused by, we get:
The cancellation was CAUSED BY rain.

OA: The Clean-Tech industry is rapidly growing due to the world's currently rising interest in environmental protection.
Here, it is unclear what noun is being modified by due to.
If we replace due to with caused by, we get:
The Clean-Tech industry is rapidly growing CAUSED BY the world's currently rising interest in environmental protection.
The resulting sentence is nonsensical.
Thus, the use of due to in the OA is incorrect.

the source is economist gmat and even i had eliminated option C for the reason that u have stated .
also kindly explain as why B is wrong .i had picked B as my best answer
