IMO "E" is wrong...since there is no logical singular noun to which "that" can refer...

Why A is Wrong?

it uses correct Modifier but wrong Comparisons?

A is wrong because we should compare noun with another noun.

C is not incorrect; it is the correct choice. Here's how I went about doing this:

Eliminate A, B, D: Leon Forrest is being compared to other people's work.
Eliminate E: the 'that of' here is completely unnecessary. This gives us E.
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

Yes, in A, in his work, and then Leon Forest is making the comparison ambigious, though modifier is correct,

in E, in more resembles , more is modifying resembles, so the than later on in non-underline portion is mis-matched, which is un-idiomatic.

B and C are non-sensical.

It left us with C: Here is the analysis for C:

Leon Forrest’s work is more reminiscent of Henry Miller’s obsessive narratives and Toni Morrison’s mythic languages than James Joyce’s internal explorations.

Leon Forrest’s work is more reminiscent of X and Y than Z
X: Henry Miller’s obsessive narratives
Y: Toni Morrison’s mythic languages
Z: James Joyce’s internal explorations.
