After suffering $2 billion in losses and 25,000 layoffs, the nation's semiconductor industry, which makes chips that run everything from computers and spy satellites to dishwashers, appears to have made a long-awaited recovery.
(A) computers and spy satellites to dishwashers, appears to have
(B) computers, spy satellites, and dishwashers, appears having
(C) computers, spy satellites, and dishwashers, appears that it has
(D) computers and spy satellites to dishwashers, appears that it has
(E) computers and spy satellites as well as dishwashers, appears to have

What is wrong with D,industry should be singular ?

I think I know what your doubt is.

First of all, "appears that it has" IMO is not idiomatic. The way I infer this is that this sentence is not correct:

Rohan appears that he has lost weight.

But this is correct : Rohan appears to have lost weight.

Basically you say that "someone appears to be something". You do not say "someone appears that..."

Secondly, in this sentence, even though Rohan is singular, we say "to have". But notice the verb - "appears" to singular.

Plants appear to have lost their color. - Here "appear" is plural. But notice "to have"
The rose flower appears to have lost its petals. Here "appears" is singular. But notice "to have".

So the verb agrees in number with the subject. But "to have" remains the same. And that is correct since "to have" is more of an idiomatic construction. It is not the main verb of the sentence.

(If you like what I say, do not hesitate to use "THANKS" button :)
