Hi,
I am a Sushmita Mallick, working as a Service Manager with IBM. Below is my profile details :
1) Name: Sushmita Mallick

3) Qualifications: B.Tech in CSE from Government College of Engineering & Leather Technology, Kolkata, West Bengal, India
4) Work Experience (Duration, Role, Company, Industry)
>>>5 years Experience with IBM (4.5 years with IBM India and six months with IBM Indonesia, I am currently in Indonesia only)
>>>Current role is Service manager for Sales Process automation for Major CPG client (Tobacco)
>>>Previously was in the role of Technical Consultant in the same project and stayed in Melbourne, Australia for over two months for the same activity.
>>>I visited Bangkok also for the Technical Consultant role, representing IBM.
5)Test Scores with the breakup
GMAT : 690 (Q-50, V - 32, IR -8)

Hi Sushmita,

I really like your career profile as a female Indian tech professional. Based on my first glimpse of your profile, I think that you have a shot for Canadian MBA programs and some UK/USA business schools.
You have some international experience, which UK and Canadian schools would like to focus more (compared to most of the US schools). More importantly, I think you need to be more specific in terms of what you want to do later on in your career. This gives us a better understanding of whether an MBA or MIS makes more sense for you.
Your GMAT score is a bit low compared to the top applicants coming from India for top 10-20 US MBA schools (need to get to at least 720+). I do think though it is high enough for adcom in Canada and UK(not LBS) schools.

Hi Sushmita,

Your application has a lot of things that top b-schools seek: global exposure, top firm placement, career progression and the right age (for US schools; for European schools you may be on the lower end of # of years of experience). You probably don't want to wait too much longer with US schools for risk of seeming like you are getting stale or not advancing. Our key challenge will be overcoming ridiculous odds associated with your demographic - there are SO MANY wonderfully accomplished Indian IT professionals applying to top B-schools. Your GMAT, especially for your demographic, is weaker but not insurmountable for good US schools if you emphasize the right aspects about leadership, impact, civic-mindedness and professional potential in your essays and resume. Without talking to you, it's hard to tell you how to best do that. Where do you see yourself immediately post-MBA? 5 years post-MBA? Long term? What sort of function? How will you sync these ambitions with your existing proven talents and achievements so that they make sense and you appear to be a risk-less bet to b-schools? What are your great achievements & passions? How unique are they? Do you have a notable community service among the extra-curriculars (hard to tell from the above list)? Why are you REALLY applying?

Your client exposure and direct relationship management there, combined with your cross-cultural and cross-geographical team management at IBM, will probably make for some good essays if you tell those stories the right way. You'll want to maximize IMPACT as much as possible (% or $ cost reduction or efficiency improvement for clients) in your resume and essays. What is the impact of your travel blog? Does it have enough traffic to run ads on? Do you have any sponsors? This could be a cool and differentiating hobby.

Again, applying as an Indian female from tech will be the biggest challenge. Most top-10 US b-schools aim for ~20-40% non-US students. YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO know what makes your profile distinct (and in our experience, the majority of otherwise-qualified candidates MISFIRE here, either by identifying the wrong unique traits, or by getting the trait right, but selling their traits the wrong way). But there's an even SIMPLER way to differentiate: having clear and achievable post-MBA goals, with bulletproof plans. "Doesn't that go without saying"? Yes. And, the vast majority of international applicants (well, all applicants actually) really don't execute well here. So, to be able to compel the adcom that you have so clearly identified the value of an MBA for you at this point in your life, and understand exactly how you're gonna exploit it toward specific short-term goals... is to take a major step ahead of your competition. It's harder than it sounds, but it's definitely doable and we have helped thousands of candidates like you with this challenge.
