Hi ,

Pls help me in understanding the logic in below word problem. ( And how such kind of questions are tacked in terms of basic needed info)

A starts reading a book at 4 30 and can read 30 pages/min. B starts reading same book at 5 20 and can read 40 pages/min. What will be the time when both of them will be reading same page.

9 30
9 00
8 40
7 50
7 00

Well @ 5:20

The other guy read 50 minutes.

Oh by the way I wish I could read 30-40 PAGES per Minute :)

So in 50 minutes the first guy can read:

50 min x 30 pages / min = 1500 pages

Now the difference between their reading speeds is 10 pages/min

How many minutes do you need to close that gap of 1500 pages ?

1500 pages / (10 pages/min) = 150 minutes! or 2hrs 30min

If you add this to 5:20

You will get 7:50

This is similar ot the two cars travelling the same direction with different speeds, one of them started early and travelling at lower speed than the other car which start some time later but travels at higher speed.
