Hello,

After you do the necessary web research, narrow down your list and talk to the prospective consultants. Whomever you choose, you will work very closely with that person, and good communication between you and your consultant will directly affect the outcome of the essays/applications, so select someone with whom you can connect and work openly and comfortably.

Of course, if you have acquaintances who can refer a consultant they've worked successfully with, that would be an ideal starting point. But you still would want to make sure that you can work effectively with that person.
