To Joshephine baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, and she remained in france during the second WW as a performer and an intelligence agent for the resistance.

A.To Joshephine baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate
B. For Joshephine baker, long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, paris was her home
C. Joshephine baker made Paris her home long before to be an expatriate was fashionable expatriate

this is an OG question. whats the actual answer? is B incorrect?

Yes it is incorrect. D is the right answer.

A/B - pronoun reference 'her' is redundant.

Its similar to 'X, he is reading'. - Here the 'he' is not necessary and the structure is awkward as well. We can use 'he' when it comes in a subordinate clause.

C - to be an expatriate is wrong

E - being is wrong, Long before it was fashionable being an expatriate - modifies Paris, which is wrong.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

I agree with the 'Parallelism' theory, but when you look at the initial modifier " Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate": what does "it" refer to? Isnt the pronoun left as orphan?

Please clarify.

Hi, could someone explain why 'her home before' phrase is not weird? Can 'before' be used at the last of the sentence ?

The OA above has been transcribed incorrectly. Answer choice D should read as follows:

Long before IT was fashionable TO BE AN EXPATRIATE, Josephine Baker made Paris her home.

In this sentence, it is an expletive: a placeholder pronoun used to delay the subject.
IT is standing in for TO BE AN EXPATRIATE.
In other words:
TO BE AN EXPATRIATE was fashionable.
