Stuck at 37 Q and 20 V

I am not sure what more I can do to improve my score. I've taken over a dozen practice tests, most of them quant only, and I cannot seem to break that 37 quant level. Data Sufficiency always seems to significantly hurt my score. I feel that I can improve that by doing more DS practice, and I intend on doing that so we'll see.

However, I cannot figure out what the hell it's going to take for me to beat the stupid 20 to 25 level on Verbal. The highest verbal score I've received at this point is 28, which is abysmal due to low CR and SC. I worked on both sections and made significant improvements. I don't care to hit the stupid 700 mark, but I at least want to break 640 so I have a decent fighting chance to get into a good part-time program.

At first, I analyzed my results and worked on my CR and got from a 31% mark to the 79% mark, but my SC score was shit, so I worked on SC. My SC mark jumped from 47% to 69% of them correct on my last practice test, and then I got destroyed on CR by only getting 50% correct, and obliterated in reading comprehension at an astounding 38%, which always seemed to be my strong point in other practice exams receiving a comprehensive score of approx 58%. I have no freaking clue what to do anymore. I feel like giving up and my test is 6 days away......

So, your results show the potential is there -- just need to bring it all together. Quick clarifying question -- how are you doing from a time management perspective?

I barley had enough time left after verbal and started freaking out toward the end but some how managed to get all of my RC questions correct on an extremely complicated passage. At the very beginning of the prac test, I was slammed by 8 CR questions in a row straight into RC and back into 4 or 5 more CR before I even saw my first SC question.

My quant on the other hand, I had approx 13 min left. I feel like I've figured out how to manage my time on the quant section and noticed a couple of arithmetic mistakes that should not have happened...

Hi hsingh2088,

How many complete practice CATs have you taken (including Essay and IR)? What were your scores on THOSE CATs?

Based on what you've written, I'm concerned about how you've been going about your preparation. It sounds like you've been focusing on one section at any one time without looking at the test as a whole. If that's the case, then you're likely going to have to retrain and retest. You should still take your scheduled GMAT; based on that score, we can figure out what to do next.

I've done 5 full CATs with results all over the map on the verbal section (See below). I at least consistently get 37 on the quant. I am really not sure what the hell to do anymore. I feel like I am brushing with the definition of insanity. Repeating the same things over and over but expecting different results. I have drilled my butt off on CR and SC and I cannot seem to get the improvement I need to push me over....Drill on CR is clearly not working, SC I've improved a little bit. How do I improve my CR score? Doing practice questions over and over and over are not working at all....

When you review questions that you've gotten wrong -- do you understand why it is that you've gotten them incorrect? After reviewing -- could you then explain and teach them to someone else? Too many times, I see people just do question after question, test after test, and never really pause to say "Where should I focus my effort."
