Here is my response :

Children today have an unprecedented number of options when it comes to entertainment. Since no parent can be aware of all of these options, it falls to the entertainment media to ensure that their content is suitable for young consumers. In this discussion, I would like to agree with the statement that entertainment media, should take necessary precautions to ensure that the content is suitable for young customers.

The fact that there are unlimited options available for entertainment that children today are more aware when compared to children in the past, when there used to be limited sources of entertainment. At the same time, parents are unaware of the options available today.Blame the peers, the school and the media industry for this transition.

There is no denying the fact that content used today be it in advertisement, sitcoms, films, posters or any other form of communication are unsuitable for the young generation for example in India, a show called Spiderman was regularly viewed by children under age 15 that contained all kinds of stunts and dramatics. Children did not realize that those stunts are performed under the supervision of trained professionals. During that show was broadcasted more than 100 children lost their lives thinking that spiderman would save their life as shown in the television.

Other options such as advertisement/films that showcases people smoking, drinking etc led to an increase in the number of children who have started doing such activities at an early age. For example in a 20 schools survey, where it was assured that the identity would no be revealed, showed some shocking but true picture of the children. More that 40% of the students aged between 10 to 16 have tried not only smoking, drinking but also drugs etc. Do we think that parents of such individuals would know this, I am sure none of the parents have any clue that children have gone to such an extent and if it does not stop then it will lead to consequences

Hence, entertainment media should take some necessary precautions such as the serials involving such scenes should be showcased only at late night or the films where the content is such that a child can get easily influenced, the film should have an "adult tag" to it. Moreover, the internet sites should be banned from public viewing not just children.

In the end, I would like to conclude that there has to be a some regulation on the entertainment media industry that showcases content harmful for younger generation and all the players in the industry should abide by that regulation in order to ensure that children today are learning the right stuff and doing the right thing to be successful ahead.
