Welcome, mahesh!

700 is a tough score to hit, but if you prepare well, you can definitely do well on the GMAT. You will need to get a good understanding of the test itself and will need to work on the fundamentals (math formulas, grammar rules) as well.

I would highly recommend the following materials, and I'm sure others will give their input as well:

~ Official Guide, 11th edition
~ GMATPrep official practice tests, free from www.mba.com
~ Princeton Review, Cracking the GMAT.

There are also OG books for math and verbal prep, and Princeton Review has those as well. I have the PR books for each but haven't seen the OG ones.

The more practice you can get, the better. An hour or two on weeknights and more on weekends will be good.

Hope this helps!

Re: timing, most people prepare for about 3 months. And as another poster noted, it is very difficult to get a 700 - that's the 93rd percentile, so by definition only 7% of the people taking the test will score that high or higher. Just be aware of that - though that doesn't mean you shouldn't aim for it, of course!
