Hello, I was hoping for some suggestions/advice from some of you experts out there on what I can do to improve my gmat score based on my weaknesses that I've recognized and the time I have to do it.
First off, to give you some background about myself, I have an educational background of Mathematics but I've been working for the past 10 years and haven't really done much studying during this time (other then job related training). I work in a fairly demanding job as a Senior BA and I am a family man, so time is a bit of luxury.
Over the past couple months, I have been studying for the GMAT everyday for 2 hours on weekdays and maybe about 2-3 hrs on the weekends (each day). I have all the Manhattan GMAT books (8 of them - 5 Quant, 3 Verbal) and I have the OG guide. Although I have not necessarily done as many practice questions, I have reviewed the concepts of all 8 books for the most part.
Now my main point
, I took a couple GMAT prep tests (I downloaded from the MBA site) and scored 560 (Q35,V32) and 570(Q36,V33). I was a little surprised at how poorly I did. Here are my observations:
1. Speed/Time - This was killer for me. I only managed to complete 28 out of the 37 Quant questions. I faired better in the Verbal as I completed 37 out of the 41, but still I was slow overall and finding it very difficult to complete the questions faster without completely not even understanding what I'm reading!!
2. After the test when I was reviewing my wrong answers, particularly in the Quant portion, I was getting practically every question right without spending more then 2 mins when I looked at the question again. This really confused me cause I couldn't understand why i just couldn't do it when I was writing the test. I'm not one to usually get too nervous, but not sure why this was happening.
Now, the good news is I don't need a 700+ type score...but I would like to get a 630-640 Minimum. The bad news is that in couple months time I have a lot of work and family committemnts coming up, so I need to find a way to raise my score to the 630/640 mark within the next month/2 months absolute max. So my questions are:
1. How realistic is it to get my score to the 630-640 mark based on what I think are my main issues as outlined above and in the next month/2 months max?
2. What are some suggestions to improve my weaknesses? I think my Quant score due to my background is likely where I can improve most, but my Verbal score is also rather poor, so any suggestions there would be great as well?
Thank you so much!
