Plateaued at 660 .!

I started my preparation a couple of months back
I have taken several tests with my scores ranging from 600 -670 on
MGMAT and GMAT prep cats
I have 5 weeks left for my exam .
Can i expect to increase my score by 50 points or more
Iam not doin well on verbal.
I have done the Manhattan SC a couple of times , as i considered sentence correction
as my weakness . However my hit rate is not satisfactory . Is there a need to radically
change my approach to verbal questions .
At present my verbal scaled score hovers around 30-33
I need to improve it further .
What should be my test taking strategy for the next few weeks ?
Should i increase the frequency of Cat s or put more emphasis on Review
and targetted practice on my weaknesses . ?

Quite a few questions here. Let me try answering one by one.

1. Don't worry about the scores in tests you are taking at home. They are representative but can never be equal to the "real deal". So stop worrying about the 3-digit number and start focusing on where you are going wrong - and how you can fix it.

2. "I have done the Manhattan SC a couple of times" is perhaps indicative of your approach. Stop looking at GMAT SC as a bunch of rules strung together in a question. It is much more than that. Apply yourself to the question. Try to see if you are able to understand the underlying "meaning". An example of it is here:

3. You have not mentioned what you are practicing from - if it is the official guide and the supplement then good! If not, then switch to it immediately. Try to understand where you are making mistakes and post it in the relevant section. Someone should be able to help you out in this forum. Also once you have taken the GMATPrep a few more times (about 4 in all) then start solving GMATPrep questions that you will find in GMATPrep documents on this forum, or specific questions that are discussed by users on the net (including Manhattangmat forums in which there is a dedicated thread).

With the above you should be able to see some improvements for sure!

I saw a few vids that you have uploaded on your website . I really liked the way you addressed the Indian Mentality of approaching questions . Yes , I have started working on my mistakes and I am also trying to understand takeaways for each problem. I also understand the importance of raking up a 50/51 on the quantitative section. I am at 48-49 presently in my Mock tests . Are any fundamental changes to my study pattern required?
I tend to struggle towards the end of the test I tend to read statements over and over again despite diagramming . Am pretty sure that is because of fatigue . How can I build my stamina on questions that appear later on in the section . Take more tests .???

there's not much specific information here, so i don't really have much specific advice. however, the poster above nails the main point -- if sentence correction is your main weakness, then you are almost certainly not using the meaning of the sentence to make your decisions.
basically, almost every single one of the major error types tested on the SC section is dependent on meaning. (this is also a fundamental aspect of the way in which the test is designed: it is not intended to be a test of rules and memorization. in fact, it is specifically designed to be a test on which rules and memorization will get you nowhere, or may even be counterproductive.)

obviously the latter.

while you are still learning things, there's no reason for you to take practice tests more often than, say, every 2-4 weeks.
remember that a practice test is an ASSESSMENT!
it is NOT AN IMPROVEMENT TOOL!
you can't get better at the gmat just by taking practice tests!
imagine that you're a runner. would you just run race after race after race, hoping that you would magically improve, or would you run 1-2 races a month and actually train between them?
same here.

once you are close to your exam date, it makes sense to take a few whole practice tests in order to practice timing and rhythm -- i.e., getting used to doing 2 essays and 37 quant q's and 41 verbal q's in a row, and learning to deal with fatigue.
when you do this, the idea is that you aren't going to review the problems very thoroughly -- you'll be past that point, and instead at a point where overall rhythm is your primary concern.

Ron has been teaching various standardized tests for 20 years.
