Profile Evaluation

by BrighterFuture » Mon Dec 17, 2007 1:17 am
Dear Stacy or Amy,

I am new to the whole MBA community and am have just started my research for what needs to be done and gathering advice for getting into business school. Could you please look at my profile and tell what you think my chances are for a top 5 business school?

- School:
1. UCLA - Aerospace Engineering, BS
2. Top 5 School for Engineering- Aerospace Engineering, MS (3.5 GPA)

- GMAT:
1. Have not taken yet, but say 700

- Resume:
1. Work at a well known aerospace engineering firm for 1.5 years
2. Graduate Research Assistant for a well known lab in the aerospace graduate school community
3. Project Manager for 1-year Graduate Project (team of 6)
4. Project Manager for Undergraduate Senior Design class (team of 8)

- extracurricular involvements:
1. Participation in the largest Pan-Asian American Professional Association

- awards, patents, publications, etc...
1. very small scholarship in undergrad

- interesting personal facts
1. I am currently unsure of what field I want the MBA to focus on, but it would be towards my current work field or non-work related business opportunities in Asia

I know this isn't a detailed background, but could you give an evaluation of it and also advise on what improvements I should aim for?

Thank you.

Hi BrighterFuture,

Without an undergrad GPA and before taking the GMAT, it's hard to evaluate your academic credentials. It does look like you did well in grad school and are in a fairly quantitative job, so I'm assuming you're ok there.

I would concentrate on building up your leadership experiences, which may mean a deeper involvement in extracurriculars. Think about ways you can take a leadership or team oriented role and demonstrate your management skills.

Good luck!
