A group of adults took a quiz that was scored from 10 to 40. If the highest score was 6 points higher than the next-highest score, what was the highest score?

(1) No one taking the test got a score lower than 32.
(2) No one taking the test got an even-numbered score.

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) No one taking the test got a score lower than 32.

If the next highest score is 34, then the highest score is 40; however, if the next highest score is 33, then the highest score is 39. No unique answer. Insufficient.

(2) No one taking the test got an even-numbered score.

Certainly insufficient.

(1) and (2) together

With (1) and (2), there is only one possibility: the next highest score is 33, thus, the highest score is 39. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C

Hope this helps!
