x, y, a, and b are positive integers. When x is divided by y, the remainder is 6. When a is divided by b, the remainder is 9. Which of the following is NOT a possible value for y + b?

a = b (some number) + 9;
b must be greater than 9. Lets say it's 10.

x= y (some number) + 6;
y must be greater than 6. Lets say it's 7.

then y+b >= 17. So 15 can not be the value of y+b.

when x is divided by Y, since we are getting a remainder 6, it implies that Y > 6 . similarly B > 9 . hence Y + B > 15.

Hence answer is E
