Verbal Book for more practice....anyone?

Hi,

After 2 Gmat CATs i have come to the conclusion that my verbal need much improvement. I have exhausted all the CR questions from the OG11 and have reviewed the answers.. Now i need more practice. Can anybody suggest a book for more Verbal practice.

* I have the OG11 - so if i get the official guide for Verbal review will i be seeing mostly the same questions as that in OG11??

* I have the Kaplan 800. - So if i buy the Kaplan Verbal Workbook will i be seeing mostly the same questions as that in KAPLAN800?

The verbal-only OG is completely different. That'd be my advice for what book to try next. Also, make sure you truly understand all the problems in the orange OG. Just "doing" the problems won't get you anywhere; you need to analyze all of them until they are practically memorized. Good luck!

there is an additional book with a whole different set of questions just for the verbal section.. it is from the same writers as the OG11 book, here is a link from amazon.

Thanks jim. And yes i have reviewed all the answers in CR from OG, even the ones that i got right. When i retry on a question i can even remember the content of the stimulus before reading it completely. So i think there would be no point in redoing all that again. So i need another book with more questions which i can work on.

So let me see if i got it right. The Official Guide for Verbal review has totally new material that the Yellow OG11 book? Even if a couple of questions repeat itself its fine as long as i have enough of new ones to practice..

Also does any body know about the Kaplan Verbal workbook? Does it contain the same practice questions as that in Kaplan800 book?

The Official Guide for Verbal review has totally different set of questions from OG11 Yellow one. However, OG Verbal Review contains repeated questions from OG10.

3 tools for verbal review. GMATFix, MGMAT, OG Verbal Review

hk,

I would agree with what most people already said. English is not my first language be I dramatically improved my Verbal performance using three resources. The Official Guide (in your case Verbal Review since you've already been through the OG), MGMAT Sent. Correction Guide, and GMATFix.com verbal flashcards. Break your study into specific topics, and for each topic do the following:

1) Go through MGMAT Guide to learn the concepts
2) Go through GMATFix.com verbal flashcards to refine these concepts. There are lots of cards and many are available for free.
3) Once you can go through the verbal flashcards pretty much without making a mistake move on to the OG Verbal Review questions for that topic (questions by topic breakdown can be found in the back of MGMAT Guide).

Most importantly (and it seems you already do this), review each solution thoroughly and go back over the GMATFix flashcards often to prevent memory leakage on the more difficult topic (each card has an attached lesson and how it applies to that card).

I don't know the Kaplan book well.

Hi,

I'm in confusion on how to start reading or working out 2 books at a time for verbal.
Do I need go thru them parallely of i need to finish 1 book and then go for the other?

Pls guide me in following the good strategy to read the books. The books I'm referring are Kaplan Premier and OG 11.

I don't know Kaplan's materials well as I used OG 11, Manhattan GMAT, and GMATFix flashcards for my verbal. What worked for me is:

1 book for lessons (Manhattan GMAT)
1 book for practice OG 11
Flashcards every day to strengthen my understanding of the lesson.

I divided the verbal into subtopics, so each day on my schedule I had 1 specific topic to study. You can see more details in my debrief at https://tinyurl.com/gmatpost

In your case, I guess you would use the Kaplan book in place of the Manhattan GMAT.
