In the telephone number 936-215X, what digit does X represent?
(1) Only one digit in the telephone number is greater than X.
(2) X is the greatest of the digits not among the telephone number's first six digits.

Solution:
Obviously, (1) implies that X can be 6,7 or 8.
So, (1) alone is not sufficient.
The digits not present in the first six places are 0, 4, 7, and 8.
8 is the greatest.
So, X = 8.
Or (2) alone is sufficient.
The correct answer is (B).
