20% of the boys means one fifth of the boys, giving us 120 boys on the honor roll. 30% of the girls is 3/10*400 = 120 girls on the honor roll. This means that 120 + 120 = 240 kids are on the honor roll.

20% of 600 = 120
30% of 400 = 120
so 120 + 120 = 240 kids
