A rectangular property that is 900 meters by 1200 meters and has road frontage along all four sides is subdivided into rectangular lots.What is the greater number of lots into which the property can be divided so that each lot will have a total of 300 meters of road frontage?

Hi sukhman,

While this prompt might appear complex, the calculations involved are fairly straight-forward.

We're told that a rectangular property is 900 meters by 1200 meters and that each of the 4 sides has 'road frontage.' The perimeter of the property is:

2(900) + 2(1200) = 4200 meters that have road frontage.

We're then told that the rectangle is going to be subdivided into spaces that EACH have 300 meters of road frontage. We're asked how many of those smaller lots will be created.

Since there are 4200 meters of road frontage and each subdivision has 300 meters of road frontage, there are...

4200/300 = 14 smaller lots created.

Final Answer: A
