Only 1 week to prepare... help!

by SM2010 » Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:46 am
Hi... I graduated with my bachelors in September and decided last minute to apply for a masters at the LSE (MSc Finance and Econ) in the hope that they may still consider my application even though I have applied very late. However much to my surprise they have asked for a GMAT and have advised me to do it as soon as possible, so I booked it for the 15th i.e. one week away.

I have no experience in GMAT and I just did the practice exam on mba.com and scored 640 (Q.48 V.29). I'm not too concerned with the quantitative but have obviously messed up the verbal section. The majority of my mistakes were in SC and CR (not so much in CR).

I wanted to know what is the best thing I can do now to prepare. I have bought the Official Guide, but is this the best place to start i.e. to just start doing practice questions without knowing the grammar rules enough etc....

Any responses will be appreciated. Thanks.

Pick up a Manhattan SC book and go nuts with it. OG guide is notorious for lack of adequate explanation, so if you're struggling with verbal, you are unlikely to improve by reading the 1-2 sentence explanations of each answer. It does however, list out the topics of each question, and along with the help of Manhattan SC guide, you can dig deeper into those topics that you might be missing repeatedly.

Thanks for the reply.... I know this sounds like a stupid question but when people talk about doing the Kaplan and Manhattan GMAT tests how do you actually get hold of those, because the website only gives you one test.
