Poor 1st attempt, need to go for it again!

by dhruv12 » Mon May 02, 2011 4:35 am
Hi Guys
I scored a mere 560 in my first attempt when I was actually aiming for 700+.
The first time I did the test, I did all the questions from the OG as well as Kaplan and also did some of those 800 series tests. I thought that would be enough but obviously not!

I think one of my main problems was lack of stamina to withstand almost 4 hours of pain on the test day - something I'm concious to fix this time around.

Please can someone help me with a study plan? I'm a working professional and can spare upto 2 hours during the week and much more on weekends.
I've now bought the individual OG Verbal and Quant guides but I don't think that's enough? Planning on buying the newer version of Kaplan (Unless someone advises otherwise?)

I plan to start by doing one of the MBAPrep tests to see where I stand, then move onto each type of question over the 5 days so DS,PS,CR,SC and RC and then do complete tests over the weekends.

Please can someone help if this makes sense? Or have I got it all wrong??

Thanks!!

Chill pal. I know it can be hard. We have all experienced it one or more times.

You need to get individual guides for individual areas.

SC: MGMAT SC.
CR: Powerscore CR.
RC: Practice, RC 99.

Figure out your weaknesses.

Also, give a lot of practice tests and make sure that you take AWA with it. That will help you build stamina.

All d best. You can do better.

Hi Vineesh,
Thanks for your response and your help.

Can you tell me where I can get more CAT tests from? I agree that I need to do full tests including AWA to build my stamina, but the GMATPrep software only comes with 2.
This is why I'm going to get Kaplan which comes with a cd and has tests on it?

Also can you tell me if my study strategy makes sense? i.e. do one section a day during the week and do full tests over the weekend?

Cheers!

Hi dhruv12,

For additional CATS, yes Kaplan and MGMAT are options. Actually if you want to take about 5 more tests, all prep companies come with one free CAT. Just register and you can take.
Knewton, Kaplan, MGMAT, Platinum all come with a test each. You can see in the home page of BTG.
Hey MGMAT results might show that you are doing well. Dont go much by it. Analyze your mistakes.
Kaplan is kinda tough. Expect to score low.

Hello! When you say weak, how weak are you? Is it really bad? Then maybe June is not a good idea. But if you are already scoring in 600s then it might be ok. RC is achilles heal for many. :)

OG Quant may seem a bit easier than GMAT. Only bcos OG you cna turn the page to the answer and say Ah! I could have done this! You should visit BTG for some time every day. Search for a particular topic on the forum and you will see lot of posts. You can solve some of those.

If you really want more practice, buy it! :)

Ya it is the same I follow. :) Give only one test a week. Anything more would be a waste of energy.
