The new contract forbids a strike by the transportation union

A) forbids a strike by the transportation union
B) forbids the transportation union from striking
C) forbids that there be a strike by the transportation union
D) will forbid the transportation union from striking
E) will forbid that the transportation union strikes

IMO: A

[spoiler]B:[/spoiler] In the original sentence importance is on forbidding strike by transportation union, B is giving importance on forbidding transportation union from striking.
Also, the use of verb striking. Object here is 'a strike by the transportation union' and verb is 'forbid'

[spoiler]C:[/spoiler] unnecessary usage of "that there be"

[spoiler]D & E:[/spoiler] will forbid suggests that contract forbids strikes in future.

hence, A

One more point Striking can be used as adjective
striking appearance but not verb/noun by itself

I choose D...

When I read A... i also read it another way... The new contract forbids a strike BY the transportation union... as in... nearby/next to the transportation union...
