Hi,
Following my post on my scores Q40,V26. I need to improve on verbal and take my quantitative scores also up. Q40->Q50 and V26->V45+.
I need tips to improve on verbal.
Also needed to know whether we get a breakdown of verbal scores for SC,CR and RC in official score report. So that I can know where I went wrong and where my scores fell. I have scheduled to appear for GMAT again on August 10th 2009. Now, I have decided to take a break and go on a holiday to India. After coming back on 14th April 2009, I need to start my preparation. So please give me some solid tips on improving on Verbal.
My main weakness is stamina, lack of concentration during verbal especially during RC section. CR is ok but I take sometimes 2.5 minutes for one CR. So timing is an issue. SC got improved a lot after going through Manhattan SC guide. But still I get 60-70% correct in SC.
So please advice on improving on Verbal. Will taking more practice tests help? Should I go through each and every question of OG again? Is princeton good for verbal. If anyone knows about princeton tests do let me know the name of the product so that i can order it. Where can i find more genuine practice tests to help me on pacing the test?
My failure in first attempt was mainly due to slow speed in verbal. I finished initial 18 questions properly and then was speeding on rest of questions giving very less time to each question may be less than a minute. So need some good strategies. Many thanks in advance.

You and I think alike :). We both are from India, got low score in verbal (mine 28), wants to score high in second attempt, and wants to get into some top B-School. But both of us need to think on our aim and plan. What’s our AIM? High GMAT score or successful admission in our dream college. We all desire for the best, but how many of us actually get the best. Getting 45+ in verbal is everyone’s dream, but how many of us actually get that. I guess, being an Indian, high score is a must for us. However, V45+ is too much to ask for. Which all colleges your are targeting at? We just need to get 20/30 points from the average of that school to get a call. As you also must have realized that, there is no fixed formula to improve verbal. As I said on a different thread, “Personally, I feel that building command over English takes time. It might take 6 month, 1 year, 3 years or more, depending on from where we start the race." To summarize, go for 45+ if you have enough time, else just try to get the required GMAT score and move on to next stage.

Looking at your target, I would say, you have taken a very judicious decision to give yourself a much needed break and sufficient time to improve. Taking practice tests definitely help, but there are not enough tests that exactly simulate the GMAT pattern. So don’t exhaust yourself with test. Give only one test every weekend and do a thorough analysis. I haven’t used Princeton, so can’t comment on it. Though, I have heard it’s easier than the real GMAT. Regarding strategy enough is given on the forum. Finally, reason of our failure in our first attempt is also same :). I also tried to pace after 20-22 question and the result disheartening 28.

Enjoy your vacation and come back rejuvenated. Best of luck.

Thanks for inputs.
My Target schools are LBS, ISB, Oxford, Cranfield, Warwick. I was thinking this time to set my target high enough so that even if I fall short of points it would be close to target :)

ISB is certainly a killer: higher the score better it is. For rest check the avg score from MBA.com. Dream high. “Dreams are like stars...you may never touch them, but if you follow them they will lead you to your destiny.”

Hi,
I would like to know if there is anything for preparing for GMAT which I could get from India. Also is 12th edition already out in India.
I also wanted to know where do I get the erasable white papers which we get during the exam. I had great trouble using those as was not used to it.
So this time I want to make sure I am comfortable using the erasable notepads given.
Thanks

I don't think you will get either of them in India. At least I haven't seen the 12 edition in Landmark or Crossword in Bangalore. Regarding erasable white papers, Pearson Center Bangalore gives you bonded laminated sheets. They were normal sheets that can be made by any lamination shop.
