The question says that the wage increase ranges from 30 to 87.5 cents

To find out the maximum wage increase for a 40 hr period lets take the maximum wage increase possible which is 87.5 cents per hour.

If the wage increase is 87.5 cents per hour then for 40 hours it would be 87.5*40=3500 cents or $35.00.So the answer is D.

Moneyman, does the phrase "the maximum wage increase" mean the max salary hike? But I misunderstood that by the fact that it should be "increase in wages". Ohhhhh! Nop man- I am really frustrated with this. Max time I misunderstood the problem itself. God pls help me!!!!!!!!!!  :?

Well Amitava this is a very simple problem and the question should be taken as it is given. The question says there can be an increase 30(lower amount) and 87.5(higher amount). The question asks what is the highest amount for 40 hours so just multiply the higher side with 40.Thats it!! Hope I made sense!!
