Understanding Practice Test Results

by red1050 » Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:39 pm
I just took a practice test from PR. Here is my scores:

Verbal = 31; 8 of first 10 questions right. 16 of first 20 questions right.

Math = 32; 9 of first 10 right. 14 of first 20 questions right.

My question is this: I though the first 10 questions have the most determination of score. I am scoring ver low even though I am getting the majority of the first 10 and 20 questions right. I am confused as to how the CAT works. Can someone explain for me?

The idea that the first 10 questions count more than the rest is actually a pretty common misconception. You can check out a pretty detailed explanation of this in the GMAT Uncovered, a free book released by Manhattan GMAT. It also explains the mechanics of a CAT pretty well! You can access this book by clicking of the link to the right of the page, under the tab "Free GMAT Prep Resources".
