Some anthropologists regard the early hominids' manner of walking as being less efficient than in modern human beings.

(A) as being less efficient than in
(B) as less efficient than it is in
(C) as less efficient than that of
(D) to be less efficient than that of
(E) to have been less efficient than it is in

This is a great question that opened up a can of worms for me.

I believe the grammar issue at hand is the idiom usage of "regard as".

Whew, I just found this to confirm it: https://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/som ... t2266.html

"regard to be" is not idiomatic, and in "regard as being less efficient", I don't think "being" is necessary when "less sufficient" is enough.

Now I sort of see why "being" is such a tricky gerund...

being is one the of words which will almost certainly be wrong on the GMAT keep that in mind when you do SC next time. only is certain cases is being used:

if someone would teach me how to post a file on the forum i can do that which contains the idioms and the common pitfalls for GMAT.

regard as is a correct idiom. that's why eliminate DE.
being is almost always wrong in GMAT.
B is gramatically incorrect.
A is a right one. than that of is a correct comparison.

walking of early hominids' , walking of modern human beings (not the walking in so A, B & E is wrong)

narrowed down to C and D rest are not showing the right comparison. IMO : C as it uses the right idiom.
