one more tough question

by varun007 » Sat Aug 30, 2008 8:55 am
Market Analyst: Recent research confirms that the main cause of bad breath is bacteria build-up on the tongue. The research also concludes that tongue scrapers, when used properly, can eliminate up to 40% of the bacteria from the tongue. As the effectiveness of tongue scrapers becomes more widely known, the market for less effective breath freshening products, such as mints, gums, and sprays, will decline significantly.

Which of the following provides the best evidence that the analyst’s argument is flawed?
Some breath freshening products are advertised to eliminate up to 30% of the bacteria from the tongue.
Tongue scrapers have already been on the market for a number of years.
Many dentists recommend regular flossing, and not the use of the tongue scraper, to combat bad breath.
A recent survey shows that 94% of those who regularly purchase breath freshening products are aware of the effectiveness of the tongue scraper.
Some people buy breath freshening products for reasons other than to fight bad breath.

OA is D , confused between a & d pls can somebody explain

Author claims that market for freshening products will decline.

we should show answer choice which should against author claim.

Answer choice A say that is effective removal of 30%. from the premise tongue scrapers are effective 40%. Obviously it shows tough scarpers are better.

now Look at answer choice D it does not expose freshening products.

as the author states that "As the effectiveness of tongue scrapers becomes more widely known, the market for less effective breath freshening products, such as mints, gums, and sprays, will decline significantly"
However, in D, this is already known by comsumers. they still buy breath freshening products.

A, B, C, irrelivance
E, OOS

If at all option A does anything it only strengthens the authors claim that other breath freshening products are less effective.if breath freshening products are 30% effeftive and tongue cleaners are 40% then people wold prefer tongue cleaners. We are asked 2 find the flaw in the argment. Option A can be rules out.

Answer E seems to be logical one out of other answer choices
