Here, a reader might construe the following:
One particular disease is THE STRANGEST AND MOST INSIDIOUS.
The result would be the following nonsensical meaning:
Kuru is ONE OF [one particular disease that is the strangest and most insidious].
The intended meaning is as follows:
Kuru is one of the strangest and most insidious diseases.
Eliminate A, B and C.

D: the most insidious known
Here, insidious (adjective) seems to modify known (adjective).
An adjective cannot serve to modify another adjective.
Eliminate D.

The correct answer is E.
