Hi Everyone,

I just posted on here regarding whether I should pick a GMAT tutor.

Everyone was helpful - thanks. Now, I am trying to decide on whom to pick. I have not had the best experience with test prep companies, so I was hoping I could get some suggestions.

Has anyone worked with a Grockit tutor? They seem to be pretty good. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be helpful.

Always, happy to throw my hat in the ring, as this is what I do. However, to answer your question specifically, what should you look for in a tutor?

- Experience
- Top Score
- MOST OF ALL, compatibility

It goes without saying that you want a qualified tutor. That means several years of experience and a top score. However, the often overlooked piece is how you communicate with your tutor. You should be able to get 30 minutes of their time to talk about style and approach. This should help you sift through all of the options and come up with something that suits what it is that you need.

Hi IWillSurvive,

I would definitely check Craigslist. That's where I found my tutor and the price is usually lower. My tutor can easily solve the math problems (his background is Physics) and he has alternatives that are easier to understand. Since I am paying per hour I make sure my time is utilized effectively by asking lots of questions and making sure we are on track to complete our goals. The tutor should be able to tailor his or her teaching to ensure you reach your full potential. But we still have to study just like we didn't have a tutor. In my opinion, the tutors should complement your studies.

Side Note: I am surprised there are not many private tutors (in person) for the verbal section. I have found a lot of online preparatory companies. I did sign up for one. Hopefully, it will improve my score.
