Unlike most severance packages, which require workers to stay until the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package even if they find a new job before they are terminated.

a) the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package
b) the last day they are scheduled to collect, workers are eligible for the automobile company's severance package
c) their last scheduled day to collect, the automobile company offers its severance package to workers
d) their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers
e) the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile company's severance package is available to workers

I couldn't decide b/w C and D, can you give me some explanation?

option a,b and e are out because of "the last day"; their is the correct preposition over here. Now between C and D, I'll go for C because I feed the use of "in order to" make sentence incomplete and thus make it vague and absurd.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Answer choice C:
Unlike most severance packages, the automobile company offers its severance package to workers.
The comparison here is illogical: the AUTOMOBILE COMPANY cannot be compared to MOST SEVERANCE PACKAGES.

Mitch is correct; the main distinction is comparisons. There is also a meaning difference between C and D, though.

In C, "last scheduled day to collect" is somewhat ambiguous. It could mean that there are several days to collect, and this is the last one; this wouldn't make much sense. Adding "in order to collect" makes much more clear that workers must work until this specific day before they can collect.
