The pesticide Azocide, introduced to central valley farms three summers ago, has proven ineffective because other pesticides' chemical compositions already in wide use neutralizing its desired effect.

A: because other pesticides chemical compositions already in wide use
B: because of the chemical compositions of the pesticides already in wide use
C: due to other pesticides already in wide use, whose chemical compositions have been
D: since, due to the chemical compositions of the other pesticides already in use, those pesticides have been
E: because of other pesticides and their chemical compositions already in use, which have been

OA: C

I do not agree on OA.
I believe it should be
F: because of other pesticides already in wide use, whose chemical compositions have been.

OR I can re-write B
B: because of the chemical compositions of other pesticides already in wide use

Well I picked C but not without hesitation. 'Due to' at the start of option C did look awkward to me and I agree with you that "because of other pesticides already in wide use, whose chemical compositions have been" would have been a better choice.

But I don't agree with you on what you have suggested for B. 'Because of' is always followed by either a noun or a noun phrase. Though i am not 100% sure but "the chemical compositions of other pesticides already in wide use neutralizing its desired effect." as a noun phrase following "because of" looks awkward to me.

Agreed... all answers look incorrect.
Luckily i reached
IMO - C
through elimination.. A. b and D are definitely wrong.. Even E and C dont look correct..

Yes mate

I could not remember that. C is the best among all.

I am confused over OA.

"other pesticides already in wide use" => modify to "proven ineffective"; BECAUSE OF should be used
"other pesticides already in wide use" => modify to "The pesticide Azocide"; DUE TO should be used

Can someone comment on it with explanation?
