Inference questions ask you to draw a conclusion. You must select the answer choice that most directly follows the premises of the passage without needing any major new assumption.

The premise here is that once imports of goods were banned to protect industries who could make these products domestically, other industries ('export-dependent industries') which would buy these products had a harder time competing abroad. Essentially this means that these export-industries (who would be the buyers of the banned imports) were forced to incur additional cost as a result of the ban (meaning these products cost more when they are purchased domestically from the fledgling industries than when they are imported)

A is correct

To look at a detailed solution, please review GMATPrep question 2003. You can find similar questions by searching for topic='Inference' and difficulty='400-500' in the Solutions Engine.

Good luck,
-Patrick

Thank you sumanr84,

The Solutions Engine has detailed explanations to all of GMATPrep, recorded video solutions, a drill engine that allows people to practice questions in their topic and difficulty of interest and a dynamic performance report that always points out your weakest areas. It was developed so that people who believe (as I do) that mastering GMATPrep is the best thing one can do to prepare for the exam will have a great tool at their disposal. I hope that people will try it and provide feedback on its features so that it may be improved.

Best of luck on your exam,
-Patrick

I'm glad to hear it selango. Be sure to utilize the drill generator to help you practice topic and difficulty-specific questions. You know you will have utilized it fully if you master all the Qs in GMATPrep. If you have feedback on how to improve it, don't hesitate to submit it.

Good luck :-)
