My Application

by hustlersambition1024 » Sat May 07, 2011 11:15 am
Hi Stacy,

I wanted to get some advice on my application for different business schools. I scored a 610 on my GMAT earlier this year as I was pressed for time in order to get my application in on time for a certain school. Needless to say I got into a part time program at a top 20 school. I guess what helped was that I was the valedictorian of my university out of over 400 graduates and currently am in the management consulting industry. However I want to get into an even more competitive school but into the Executive MBA program which is currently offered where I live. Should I retake the GMAT? The school requires a minimum of 4 years of work experience and I will have exactly 4 years of experience and was wondering if it would strengthen my application to get a better GMAT score?

I look forward to your response. Thanks.

Best,

Ray

Dear Ray,

Perhaps. It depends on what the average GMAT is for the program(s) you are targeting and how strong the rest of your profile is relative to the class profile of the program(s). If your profile is average or slightly below average on some measures, then a higher GMAT score will most likely strengthen your application. EMBA programs evaluate applicants similarly to daytime (full-time) programs; however, there is a strong emphasis on quality of experience to date, rationale for the EMBA program and future career goals. I encourage you to speak with an admissions professional at the EMBA program regarding your profile as s/he will give you the best guidance on what you could do to improve your chances.

Good luck,
Lisa
