Hey, all. I need some advice and opinion on postgraduate studies. Currently I am an undergrad marketing major student and marketing research particularly fascinates me. From September this year, I will be starting internship at AC Nielsen. I intend to do Masters starting in summer or fall semester of 2010. However I cannot decide whether I should pursue a Masters in Marketing or a Masters in Marketing Research program. After completing the degree in USA, I will be settling down with my family in Australia and hence will need to find employment there. I am keen on working in the marketing research industry for 4 to 5 years to gain valuable experience before entering into a MBA program.

In your opinion, should I pursue a Masters in Marketing, or specialize with Masters in Marketing Research (since it is the industry I am keen to work in)? Any advice in this regard will be really appreciated. Thanks for your time!

NOTE: I can apply to a number of respectable universities for the Masters in Marketing program (in USA or Australia). However, University of Georgia is my only option for the marketing research program.

Hey,
Lemme just give you a brief description about myself. I am Zeeshan from India. Have completed my MBA this year and currently working with Deloitte and like you I want to get into Marketing Research industry only.

Firstly lets accept this fact, that like you and me there are very few people who specifically wanna get into MR only. Even though I have completed my MBA, i believe I don't have indepth knowledge about MR ( except for the additional reading and software knowledge i have possessed working externally). I am sure I wanna get into MR industry, and so I would be doing Masters in MArketing Research in Aug 2010.

For you my suggestion would be similar. If you are very keen in getting into MR industry, go ahead with MMR because I have been researching about the course offering (particularly in Tilburg University, Netherlands) and the offering is extremely indifferent and valuable to what Ive got in MBA.

Inshort, my vote goes for MMR and not MBA. Let me know if your interested in MMR, I would love to discuss more on this topic.

PS - I am new into this site so if you wanna contact, you can use my personal id as well ([email protected])

To be very frank, do not expect many replies to this thread there are very few people who are only keen to get into MR.

Wish you luck ... bye!!!
