Dividing with exponents

I have a hard time understanding why my answer is wrong. I keep getting 9 (wrong answer) instead of 3 (correct answer).
This is a problem solving question from a practice GMAT prep practice test.

Please help!

(8^2)(3^3)(2^4)/96^2=

a) 3
b) 6
c) 9
d) 12
e) 18

(8^2)(3^3)(2^4)/96^2=

a) 3
b) 6

(8²)(3³)(2�)/96²

= ((2³)² * 3³ * 2�)/(2� * 3)²

=(2� * 3³ * 2�)/(2¹� * 3²)

= (2¹� * 3³)/(2¹� * 3²)

= 3.

The correct answer is A.

2^10 * 3^3 / (2^10 * 3^2) = 3

3 is the correct answer. 96 = 2^5 * 3
square of 96 = 2^10 * 3^2

Hi rerika, there two ways how to approach this problem - to beat the pot :) or to perform prime factorization of the denominator 96= 2^5 * 3. Now rewriting (8^2)(3^3)(2^4)/(2^5 *3)^2; since 8 is 2^3 --> (2^6)(3^3)(2^4)/(2^10 *3^2) = 3^3/3^2 = 3
