B and E are only contender ... n diff b/w them is very subtle...

context in sentence is in such a way that word enabled is suitable here than caused... is

Only B and E are contenders. However, E says 'A light pulse', means scientiest have enabled 'A light pulse' to travel. How can they enable for only one pulse to travel? 'A light pulse' should be replaced by 'light pulses' as in B.

Therefore, IMO B

IMO contenders are A & D. Parallelism allows for an implicit "have" before caused. I'm not sure how to decide on the singular/plural thing though...

It is surprising. What is the source?
