Hi Stacy/ Amy,

I am an Engineering graduate from India. I would like to get my profile evaluated. I would also like to get a few suggestions on the universities i could choose with my profile.

GMAT: 620 - Q: 43; V: 33; AWA - 4.5

GPA: 3.0 + (Indian First Class Degree) - Electronics & Communication Engineering

Work Experience: I am going to complete 2 yrs at Infosys this september. I specialise in .Net and in the Insurance Domain.

Awards and Career Highlights: I have been awarded for my all-round contribution to my project. I have always taken additional responsibilities such as Defect Provention and mentoring fresh trainees. I am currently handling the entire Database operations for my project. I recently was given the opportunity to lead a small team to implement a web application for Senior Management in my department at Infosys. The project has been rolled out successfully.

Achievements: I was elected the student representative for college Union.

Please let me know if i stand a chance in business Schools in America. Please suggest some good universities i could look at for MBA in Information Technology. I plan to work in the IT consulting industry.

Thanks,
Bharath

Hi bharath83,

Are you definitely set on going to school in the US? It sounds like you have some strong accomplishments at work, which is great, but I'm concerned about the length of your work experience (have you been promoted? How has your progression been?), the fairly low GMAT, and your lack of extracurriculars.

If you do want to pursue an MBA in the US I would think about some of the good regional programs like Pepperdine in CA and Drexel in PA. The only issue with these schools is that they generally are most well respected in the area where they are located, so you won't see a lot of national or international recruiting traction.

Good luck!

hi Amy,

i am going to complete 2 years in september. i am not in line for promotion, the general rule is that the first promotion comes after 3 yrs. I have done a lot of additional tasks which are outside my role as a developer. I have been doing tasks that are generally done by senior folks such as maintaing the Database operations for the project, leading a small team etc...

I am keen on going to a US schools but i am also open to schools in Singapore, UK. I am planning to apply to Texas A&M - Mays Bschool. Their calculation of work experience takes in all the factors i have been doing.

regarding extra curriculars - i was involved in some social work for environmental protection and a focus on vegetarianism... but that was during high school (8th grade to 10th grade). can i mention that?

Could you suggest me some schools in Singapore and UK?

thanks

Hi bharath83,

I would generally avoid using significant material from any time before college. You are fairly young, so may be able to get away with it, but schools like to see more recent activity.

As for additional schools, in Singapore there is INSEAD, which is probably the best option internationally, but also is competitive. Nanyang Business School and National University of Singapore are the only other business programs I have seen mentioned. Oxford may be a good UK option for you.

Good luck!
