Combined 1 and 2:
Both the statements together still doesnt give us the sign of y (or x).

So both the statements together not sufficient.

Start with easy statement first..

Statement 2: clearly does not tells us anything about the value of x. INSUFFICIENT

Statement 1: take values
let x = -1
y = -1

this satisfies the condition

1> (-2)

now take x=4
y =2
this also satisfies the condition
2>1

hence , this statement also is NOT SUFFICIENT

Use both the statements together
statement 2 tells us that either x & y are both >0 or both <0

if you read the numbers I used in Statement A -- those numbers can be used in this case as well.

Clearly both statements taken together are also NOT SUFFICIENT
